Cisco would have you believe that it’s not possible to put used Cisco routers, used Cisco switches or any other used Cisco product onto a Cisco Smartnet maintenance contract. This is another Cisco myth, although we would need to be aware of your intentions prior to ordering your used Cisco routers or used Cisco switches. This is to ensure we order “Smartnet eligible” product as failure to do this could entail a re-certification fee from Cisco.
It is our experience that refurbished Cisco routers and switches are more reliable than new equipment and it may prove more prudent from both a cost and disaster recovery point of view to buy spare used Cisco routers, used Cisco switches, used Cisco IP phones etc than to spend the money on Smartnet.
