Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? Find answers to the most commonly asked questions below.

Q: How do I obtain Cisco updates for my used Cisco routers and switches?
A: Purchase “Smartnet Eligible” equipment and place on a Cisco Smartnet contract. An 8 x 5 x NBD contract is the most cost effective contract to achieve this.

Q: Does my used Cisco router, switch etc. come with a software license?
A: Most line cards, adapters, modules, transceivers, SFPs etc do not have any software component and do not require licensing. Items such as used Cisco routers and used Cisco switches do have IOS software on board and Cisco advises that a license should be purchased for these items. The official¬† answer is on Cisco’s own website IOS Transfer and Relicensing Policy.
